ALEX NOVICK 11
A graduate of the class of 2005 Alex was an outstanding safety in a Viking secondary that ranked among the San Diego section’s best in 2004. Together with fellow safety Chris Jones, Alex was part of one of the best safety tandems in the history of La Jolla football. His intelligent and aggressive play contributed to a type of defensive secondary production that was unmatched in Viking defensive history. In 2004 opponents completed 59 of 168 passes for a meager 603 yards. This 35% completion percentage and 54 yards per game total passing are both La Jolla records. Although Alex’s senior season was cut short by a knee injury he still totaled 66 defensive points in only half a season of action. He finished his Viking career with 134 total defensive points that included 48 tackles (35 unassisted) and 5 break-ups.
Alex’s special contributions, leadership and commitment to the Viking program were important factors in his being awarded the 2004 Defensive Coaches Award. In addition to his on the field success Alex demonstrated a strong commitment to his academic responsibilities and was selected an outstanding scholar-athlete by the San Diego Union-Tribune his senior year.
