JERRELL AGNEW
This former member of the Secret Society had an outstanding career on both sides of the line of scrimmage for the Vikings. Playing only on the offensive side of the ball his first varsity season he quickly established himself as one of the top running backs in the Western League. Jerrell rushed for 613 yards on 149 carries averaging 4.1 yards per carry and scored seven touchdowns. He also caught 12 passes for 79 yards. Jerrell also handled the team's punt return duties and returned 25 punts for 223 yards. His junior year's performance earned him Honorable Mention All Western League honors and recognition as the team's Most Improved Offensive Player. In his senior year Jerrell was asked to play on both sides of the line of scrimmage and he responded with an award winning season. On the offensive side of the ball Jerrell rushed for 1047 yards on 196 carries. He averaged 5.3 yards per carry and scored 17 touchdowns. He also made an additional 13 pass receptions that netted a total of 154 yards. Jerrell led the team in scoring with 104 points and once again handled the Viking's punt and kickoff return duties. He returned 14 kickoffs for 343 yards and returned one kick for a touchdown. His average per return was 24.5 yards. Jerrell also returned 16 punts for 172 yards. On the defensive side of the ball Jerrell provided tremendous support to the Viking's secondary. He scored 31 total defensive points and was in on ten tackles and made two break ups. In addition he played a very important role on all special teams. His play in 2007 earned him Second Team All Western League honors. He was voted Team Captain and received the team's Most Valuable Offensive Player Award. Jerrell also left his mark in the Viking's record book. For his career he rushed for 1660 yards on 345 carries, averaged 4.8 yards per carry and scored 22 touchdowns. He caught 25 passes for 233 yards and scored one touchdown. On special teams he returned 41 punts for 395 yards and returned 17 kickoffs for 424 yards and one touchdown. Jerrell's 1047 single season total rushing yards ranks 8th all-time in Viking's history. His two year total of 1660 yards ranks 9th all-time and his 25 career receptions rank 11th all-time. His senior season total of 104 points ranks 6th all-time in offensive single season scoring and his career 146 points ranks 6th all-time. Jerrell's 205 yards rushing against Brawley High School in 2007 ranks 11th in the all-time single game rushing totals. Like his teammate Spencer Moyer, Jerrell was also a standout member of the La Jolla varsity basketball team. Jerrell's 24 points in the CIF Division III Finals lead the Vikings to the section title and a memorable run in the state playoffs that ended in a quarter-finals loss to eventual state champion Santa Margarita. In his senior year he was selected to the First Team Division III All-CIF Team and was chosen to play in the City-County All-Star game. Jerrell was also an outstanding sprinter on the La Jolla track and field team and won the league's 100 meter title. Jerrell is a type of athlete that is becoming less and less common. He is a three sport stand out who unselfishly shared all his talents while all along never being concerned with specialization in any one sport.
