A graduate of the class of 2000, Mike was an exceptional two way player for the Vikings from 1997 to 1999. Known for his great athleticism, he was a charter member of the Star Chamber and a player who was truly committed to the Viking program. Mike played varsity football since his sophomore year and was used exclusively as a receiver his first two years on varsity, In 1999 Mike played both receiver and free safety. As a receiver he made his biggest impact his senior season. Combining with junior quarterback Mitch John, Mike caught 35 passes for 775 yards and 11 touchdowns. He averaged 22.1 yards per reception. His receiving yardage, yards per reception and touchdowns ranked him second among all City receivers. His yardage per reception ranked fourth in the county and his touchdown total ranked him fourth among all San Diego Section receivers. For his career Mike had 52 receptions for 1090 yards and 12 touchdowns. His career 20.9 yards per reception is a Viking record. During his senior year Mike played free safety and established himself as one of the top two-way players in the county. Mike was in on 49 tackles (38 original), made 3 interceptions, broke up 5 passes and caused 2 fumbles. His interception and caused fumble totals led the Viking defense. He scored a total of 167 defensive points and also handled the team’s punt return duties. Mike was an Honorable Mention All Western League selection in 1998 and a First Team selection in 1999. He was voted the Defensive Back of the Year and Team Captain in 1999. He was also selected as the team’s Most Valuable Player his senior year. Mike was an exceptional student and a member of the County All Academic Football Team in both his junior and senior years. He carried a 3.46 GPA his senior season.
