12 SPENCER MOYER
Spencer was a two-year starting cornerback for the Vikings in 2006 and 2007. In his junior season Spencer recorded 78 defensive points. He was in on 26 tackles, recorded four break ups and made one interception. He also led the defense with two fumble recoveries. Spencer was an Honorable Mention All Western League defensive back in 2006 and his 3.08 GPA earned him recognition as an Outstanding Scholar-Athlete by the San Diego Union-Tribune, an honor that he also received his senior year. He followed up his junior season with another productive year. In 2007 Spencer was in on 16 tackles and recorded a team leading ten break ups. Of these ten break ups the one that he will be remembered for the most is the one he made against Hoover High School to preserve a hard fought 22-20 victory and advance the Vikings into the Division IV CIF playoffs with a number two seed. Spencer was again awarded Honorable Mention All Western League honors his senior year. He finished his Viking career with 42 tackles including 29 solo stops and also recorded 14 break ups, recovered two fumbles and made one interception. Spencer also made major contributions to all the Viking special teams and once again received Honorable Mention All Western League honors. In addition to his success on the football field Spencer was also a very accomplished member of the La Jolla High School basketball team. He was a four year member of the varsity program and in 2007 led the Vikings to a Western League Championship as well as the Division III CIF Title. His outstanding play helped advance the Vikings to the quarter-finals of the state playoffs where they were eliminated by eventual state champion Santa Margarita. Spencer was selected to the All Western League First Team and also awarded Second Team All-CIF honors. Spencer's contributions on the football field will of course be remembered by his coaches. In addition his coaches very much appreciate the fact that he was quite willing to participate in two sports throughout his high school career. Often when an athlete finds tremendous success in one sport they decide to specialize in that sport and stop competing in all others. Spencer proved that it is not only possible but very beneficial to your development as an athlete to compete in more than one arena and that your development and experiences in one sport will help you become a better athlete in another. Spencer will continue his college education at Chico State University where he was recruited to play basketball for the Wildcats. Pictures of Spencer can be found in the 2006 and 2007 Action Pictures file.
