DAVID McCOLL 9
David played varsity football for the Vikings from 2011 to 2012 and was one of the most accomplished scholar-athletes in the history of La Jolla High School. David was a three sport athlete and also played basketball and volleyball. On the football field he was known for both his athleticism, leadership and unselfish attitude evidenced by his willingness to always put the interests of his team first. During his Viking career David played multiple positions on both sides of the line of scrimmage. On offense he played quarterback, running back and wide receiver. On the defensive side of the ball he played linebacker and of course defensive back. David finished his varsity defensive career with 169 defensive points. He recorded 48 tackles with 35 of those being unassisted. He led the defense his junior year with three sacks and had five total career sacks. He also recorded one interception. On the offensive side of the ball David completed 32 passes for 358 yards, rushed for 157 yards and scored one touchdown. David also punted six times averaging 37 yards per kick. In 2012 David was selected to the Second Team All-Western League offensive team and he was also voted the team's Most Valuable Player. David was also selected a Team Captain in 2012. As successful as he was on the playing field David's academic accomplishments were even more impressive. David received an early admission to Stanford University for the fall 2013 term. He carried a 4.77 GPA and was ranked 4th in his class of 343 students. David received numerous AP Scholar Awards during his high school career with one of them being an AP Scholar with Distinction Award in 2011. He was a National Merit Commended Student in 2011 and a Union Tribune All-Academic Team member in both his junior and senior years. He was a La High High School Honor Roll member all four years and a Rotary Youth Leadership Award winner in 2011. David was also a UT-Television Featured Prep Sports Star his senior year. David's academic distinction, athletic accomplishments and community service was rewarded after his senior season when he was selected a 2012-2013 Scholar-Athlete by the National Football Foundation and College Hall of Fame. David will always be remembered for total commitment to the Viking football program. He earned the respect of both his teammates and coaches and he will always serve a a role model for what a student-athlete should be. |
