A graduate of the class of 2000, Mike was a standout linebacker for the Vikings in 1998 and 1999. Known for his tremendous work ethic and dedication to the program, he was selected to be the first group leader of the Star Chamber. As a junior, Mike was the starting strong side linebacker and was a Second Team All Western League Selection. He also received the prestigious Gene Edwards Memorial Ironman Award in recognition of his tough and unselfish play. As a senior, Mike started at inside linebacker and was a First Team All Western League Selection. He was also voted linebacker of the year and Team Captain. For his career, Mike was in on 153 tackles (101 original), he had 6 sacks, 9 hurries, one break-up, 2 caused fumbles and one recovered fumble. He led the defense in hurries in both 1998 and 1999. In 1999 he also led the defense in tackles, caused fumbles and total defensive points with 289. Mike scored 465 defensive points during his two-year varsity career. Mike was also an outstanding student and was selected to the County All Academic Football Team in both his junior and senior years. In 1999 he was selected to the Union-Tribune’s All Academic First Football Team with a GPA of 4.21. In 2000 the Walter J. Zable/San Diego Chapter of the National Foundation and College Hall of Fame named him to the prestigious Scholar-Leader-Athlete Team.
