A graduate of the class of 2000, Ryan was a three year
varsity lineman for the Vikings from 1997 to 1999. In 1999 he was invited to
join the Star Chamber as the group’s 11th man. The 11th
man, also known as “Q,” is a player who exhibits great team leadership
skills and leads by example. Ryan was asked to play very early in his varsity
career. As a sophomore, Ryan played defensive line when the Vikings were part of
the physical Eastern League. Thereafter, his varsity career consisted of playing
on both sides of the line of scrimmage. His biggest season came in 1999 when he
overcame an early season knee injury and went on to anchor a solid offensive
line that allowed the Vikings to throw for over 1800 yards and rush for over
1300 yards. Ryan was selected to the First Team All Western League Team and was
voted Co-Hog of the year for his outstanding line play. He was also voted Team
Captain. As a part-time defensive player, Ryan finished his career with 17
tackles, 2 sacks and one hurry. He had a total of 60 defensive points. In
addition, Ryan was an outstanding student and was selected to the County All
Academic Football Team both his junior and senior years. He carried a 3.48 GPA. |
