Dear Ryan,

I am writing this letter to extend a very special invitation to you. The Star Chamber has decided to ask you to be our "11^thman." I know you studied or 1999 pin carefully and have already noticed a reference to the Star Chamber. This is a secret society that operates within the Secret Society of the White Nine. The Star Chamber has been in existence since December of 1998. There are currently nine active members. If you decide to accept this invitation, you will be informed as to the composition and purpose of the Star Chamber.

This invitation is being extended to you because you have shown great senior leadership this season. We have been lacking leadership in general in our program for a number of years. It is very difficult to accept a leadership role and then follow through with the responsibilities that go along with it. In fact, some of our current Star Chamber members have failed to live up to their responsibilities. Still, I will continue to ask these individuals to fill this role because I believe that in time they will realize that a positive attitude and responsible behavior is way more important than having great physical skills. Ask any coach on any level and he will tell you that some of the most talented football players in the world are not playing the game because of their lack of character.

I am very happy with the way you have stepped forward and accepted a leadership role this season. I hated to see you get hurt against West Hills because we need your presence on the field and in the locker room. After accepting this invitation you will not be asked to do anything that you aren’t already doing. Just be yourself and help our team reach its full potential. We still have a chance to accomplish great things this year, but "we" are our own worst enemy. Some of our key players don’t realize this or don’t want to accept this fact.

If you decide to join I will speak to you at length about this later on. For now, all you have to do is go see Mike Boggs and tell him that you accept the role of the 11^th man and that you want to be "Q." He will take you to the Star Chamber. I hope you are willing to fill this important role. You will be a positive addition to our Chamber. Remember, this is very confidential so don’t share this information with anyone until you find out more about the group (not even your little brother).
